UX Research & Case Study Brief
Imagine a service called LocalGuide, an app that provides information and recommendations about where people can go and what to see in different cities around the world.
It could offer maps, audio, video, photographic and textual content for tours, directions, restaurants, and other topics.
The travel guide app could include advertising and might be sponsored by hotels, car rental agencies and restaurants for use by people visiting the area.
In order to create the best experience possible, a series of interviews were conducted on prospective users. Your job is to take those interviews and create the interface for the mobile app, based on different users' needs.
Over the course of several assignments, you will follow the necessary steps towards making the best app possible.
Now that we've created our user personas, we will need to start concepting and coming up with potential solutions. In this part of the design process, we're going to generate as many ideas as we can. One method for doing this is something called 6-8-5. We're going to have you create 6 to 8 sketches in 5 minutes. That's right, 5 minutes.
Rapid Prototyping
Rapid prototyping is the process of quickly mocking up your product, be it a website or application, and validating it with a broader team of users, stakeholders, developers and designers. Doing this rapidly and iteratively generates feedback early and often in the process, improving the final design and reducing the need for changes during development.
A prototype can come in many favors. There's low-fidelity prototypes that can be made using nothing more than paper and pencil or something more high-fidelity like a clickable prototype on a device.
Creating a prototype is a critical activity for all designers as it creates a platform for engaging users early in order to gain feedback and insights *before* going into a full build of the product.
Axure is a powerful wireframing and prototyping tool used in the industry to create clickable wireframes. It can be used to create static websites or build more sophisticated clickable prototypes for web or mobile. While Axure is not the only tool used by UX and interaction designers, it has emerged as one of the industry defacto software for wireframe/prototype creation. Therefore, being familiar with the tool is a must.
Proto.io high fidelity prototype using a more advanced tool. The difference here is that Proto.io allows you to create richer interactions and simulate your mobile experience more closely to the final execution.
Branding Exercise & Logo
When we talk about a brand, the first thing that comes to mind is the company logo. The logo is one of the most iconic symbols of a company's image and it is also one of the hardest things to create. A logo has to capture the company's values and identity, all the while being aesthetically pleasing, memorable, and distinctive.
Every designer will have to create a logo during their professional lives. In order to give you experience developing this important skill set, you will be required to redesign an existing company's logo.
Website Design
Your website must minimally include the following:
Logo, Headline, Device Screenshots, Download App CTA, How It Works, Features/Benefits
You will be responsible for writing all of the content that goes on your website design and your website design only has to be one-page long.
